Temporary Overnight Shelter for Homeless Persons Proposed for Port Coquitlam's Grace Church

The Hope For Freedom Society intends to apply to the City of Port Coquitlam for a Temporary Use Permit to operate a temporary seasonal overnight shelter at Grace Church, 2606 Kingsway Ave, Port Coquitlam.  The shelter, to be known as the Tri-Cities Bridge Shelter, is proposed to provide nightly accommodation from 9:30 PM – 7:00 AM to homeless persons during the inclement weather months of October - March inclusive.  Operation is proposed to begin in the fall of 2012 and continue during fall and winter months until the permanent emergency shelter and transitional housing facility at 3030 Gordon Ave. in Coquitlam is ready for occupancy, scheduled for late spring 2014.  For more information on the Bridge Shelter proposal, please attend an Open House at Grace Church on Thursday, February 2nd, 6:30 - 8:30 pm, or click here.

Developer/Operator Selected For Tri-Cities Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing

BC Housing announced on December 14, 2011 that Raincity Housing has been selected to develop and operate the permanent Tri-Cities Emergency Shelter &Transitional Housing Facility at 3030 Gordon Ave. in Coquitlam.  Funding for the shelter and housing facility was confirmed earlier in October.  Consultation, development and design is expected to be completed by the end of 2012, with construction of the facility starting in early 2013. Facility opening is scheduled for late spring 2014.  To view the BC Housing media release, click here.

2011 Preliminary Homeless Count Results Released

Preliminary results from the snapshot 24 hour Metro Vancouver homeless count conducted on March 16th, 2011 indicate that homelessness has declined in the Tri-Cities from 94 homeless persons recorded in 2008 to 47 persons now – a 50% reduction.  Although the triennial Metro Vancouver count is by its very nature an undercount, the results do indicate that a concerted community effort has brought about a significant reduction of homelessness in the Tri-Cities.
