Coquitlam Launches Consultation Process For Shelter Site

The City of Coquitlam is launching a public consultation program to support the rezoning process for the site of the proposed permanent emergency shelter and transitional housing facility on City-owned land at 3030 Gordon Ave.  The program will provide early and ongoing project and contact information and multiple opportunities for public input from the end of June 2010 through the summer and fall to the anticipated Public Hearing date of November 29, 2010.  Public Open Houses are planned for late September.

In addition, the City will be undertaking off-site servicing (curbs, sidewalks and street lighting) of the site, with anticipated completion by the end of October 2010.

Place a Face on Homelessness

Have you had an opportunity to sit down and talk with someone who is homeless? To find out what life is like from their perspective - the challenges of living without shelter, of being isolated from and shunned by the community surrounding them, their own stories?  Here is your chance. You are cordially invited to attend the soup kitchen at Trinity United Church, 2211 Prairie Ave. Port Coquitlam, any Wednesday from 12 - 2 PM - provided you take the time to chat with a homeless person who relies on this service for an occasional hot meal. No reservations required - just drop in.

For more information, contact Bernie Poitras, 604-941-2408.
